Meet the Candidate

Jaime Douthat

For the past twenty years, Jaime has served as a prosecutor in Clinton County, including over seven years as Chief Assistant District Attorney. That experience has taught her that the law is only as effective as the integrity, judgment, and compassion of the people entrusted to uphold it. She has worked to secure justice for victims of serious crimes while also serving in Drug, Alcohol, and Mental Health Treatment Courts since 2006. These courts reinforced something she has long believed: accountability and compassion can, and should, go hand in hand.

Serving in Surrogate’s Court would be a continuation of that commitment. At its core, the role is about guiding people through some of the most difficult and personal moments of their lives with fairness, patience, and experience. After two decades of public service, Jaime is prepared for that responsibility and deeply grateful for the trust and support of our community.

I promise that when elected I will use my extensive courtroom experience, knowledge, and judgment to treat all who come before me with respect and compassion. I have served our community for over two decades, and it would be my great honor to continue doing so in this important position.

Jaime Douthat

04

Equality

Judges shall ensure equality of treatment to all before the courts.

Jaime has made it a priority to treat every person in and out of the courthouse with courtesy and respect, from victims, to families, to first responders, to colleagues, to community members, to all court personnel.

02

Impartiality

Judges need absolute neutrality, deciding each case solely on facts and law without bias toward any party.

The responsibility of prosecutors is to seek justice. To seek the truth fairly, ethically, and with integrity. To do the right thing even when no one is watching. That responsibility is one Jaime has always taken seriously, and one that she will maintain from the bench.

01

Independence

Judicial independence is essential to the rule of law and a fundamental guarantee of a fair trial.

For twenty years, Jaime’s sole client has been the people in our community. Her job has been to seek the truth and tell the truth, regardless of the consequences. Her job demands honesty and transparency to ensure defendants receive a fair trial, victims receive justice, and our community's trust in the criminal justice system is upheld.

05

Competence & Diligence

Judges shall master relevant law, issue timely rulings, and provide reasoned judgments.

Jaime’s extensive appellate experience has taught her the valuable skills of efficient research and effective writing. She lectured fellow prosecutors on oral argument strategies through the New York Prosecutor’s Training Institute.

03

Integrity & Propriety

Judges shall ensure that their conduct is above reproach, avoiding even the appearance of impropriety in both professional and personal conduct. They shall conduct themselves in a way that is consistent with the dignity of the office.

Jaime has a duty to know the ethical rules that govern her conduct. She has followed them faithfully during her career serving our community. Her conduct extends beyond the courtroom to the relationships she has built over the years working with individuals throughout our county.

Why Jaime

She will bring to the bench the values she has held for her entire career.
