Why Jaime

Three Pillars of the Campaign

01

Deep Local Roots

Jaime chose Clinton County. She arrived in 2004 and never left, not because of where she was from, but because of who she found here. She walks to work through downtown Plattsburgh each morning, greets neighbors by name, and has spent more of her adult life in Clinton County than anywhere else. This community is home. Serving it is her honor.

02

Justice With Compassion

As a prosecutor Jaime has always believed that doing the right thing means treating every person with dignity. She has championed Treatment Courts, drug, alcohol, and mental health, since 2006, knowing that a safer community comes through both accountability and healing. She has helped victims find justice and helped first-time offenders find real second chances.

03

Judicial Temperament

Jaime is known for never rubber-stamping. She reviews every warrant and every decision with care and ethical rigor. She stays composed under pressure, treats every person with dignity, and holds herself to the highest professional standard, every day, not just in the courtroom. She would be the first woman ever to serve as Surrogate's Court Judge in Clinton County.

Jaime A. Douthat

CANDIDATE · SURROGATE'S COURT JUDGE

Meet the Candidate

Jaime Douthat

For the past twenty years, I have served as a prosecutor in Clinton County, including six years as Chief Assistant District Attorney. That experience has taught me that the law is only as effective as the integrity, judgment, and compassion of the people entrusted to uphold it. I have worked to secure justice for victims of serious crimes while also serving in Drug, Alcohol, and Mental Health Treatment Courts since 2006. Those courts reinforced something I have long believed: accountability and compassion can, and should, go hand in hand.

Serving in Surrogate’s Court would be a continuation of that commitment. At its core, the role is about guiding people through some of the most difficult and personal moments of their lives with fairness, patience, and experience. After two decades of public service, I am prepared for that responsibility and deeply grateful for the trust and support of this community.

I promise the voters that when elected I will use my extensive courtroom experience, knowledge, and judgment to treat all who come before me with respect and compassion. I have served this community for over two decades, and it would be my great honor to continue doing so in this important position.
